The music industry is evolving tremendously. Over the last decade, we have witnessed some extraordinary artists coming out of nowhere to reaching heights that no one had ever predicted. While some were fortunate to taste the success whereas some careers dipped drastically. However, this change treated us with new music. In today world, it is both easy and tough being a musician. Tough due into increasing competition and options available to the listeners. Easy, as anyone and everyone can make music. All you need is a computer, a mic, software and some knowledge as to how to use these three. Speaking of musicians, there have been some legends who have managed to maintain their position on the charts.
Previously, it was a rock genre that was dominating the music industry with close to 25% of the entire music available on the internet. Now, hip-hop has taken over with 27% of content streamed across various channels. Huge credit goes to online music stream such as Spotify, SoundCloud, Shazam etc. Hip Hop scene has changed the perception of how we used to think of it. Now there are rappers, mumble rappers, lyrical rappers and wannabe rappers. It is quite debatable how rap heads claim the damage mumble rap scene has done to the rap game. The authenticity of the song is lost. The 90s blokes are raised up listed to Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, 50 Cent, Mos Def, Wu-Tang, and the list goes on. However, on the other side of the story, there are approx. 11,000 artists on the SoundCloud with initials as “Lil” before their name. We believe that this fact should suffice the justification to the degrading rap game. But what basically is mumble rap? It refers to an unclear vocal delivery of any song by an artist as compared to the traditional style of rapping. This style is widely criticised by the legends in the game while some consider it as an evolution to the industry. The main reasons for the criticism is obvious, you don’t understand what the artist is saying, too fewer bars in a verse, too much nudity, too much money, and too much drama.
Still, the rap heads or the G.O.A.T, Greatest of All Times, are working their ass out to save us and the art which was once believed to belong to the only black community. We are talking about the lyrically insane rappers. 2Pac, Big L and Biggie may not be alive today to witness this, but they’ve already inspired millions and billions of aspiring artists to respect the real art. As the saying goes in the music industry, “A real one recognises a real one”. Present-day lyrical rapper like Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Joyner Lucas, 50 Cent, Royce Da 5”9, are a few in the list who never fail to diss and take a dig at the mumble rappers like Lil Pump, Designner, Slim Jesus, 21 Savage, Lil Dicky, Offset, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Kodak Black, etc.
One legend who has survived this shit and has been a blessing to our ears, heart and mind is Marshall Mather or as we better know him as Eminem. This white bloke has been dominating the industry since he stepped up since 1996.
Marshal Bruce Mathers III or better know as Eminem was born on 17th October 1972 and currently live in Michigan, Detroit. He is an American rapper, songwriter, producer, actor and film producer. He is certainly labelled as greatest rapper to ever live and King of Hip Hop. He released his debut album “Infinite” in the year 1996 followed by Slim Shady EP in 1997. After gaining popularity, Dr Dre signed Eminem in 1999 to his Aftermath Entertainment which played a big role in winning him the award for the best rap album. His very next releases, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show blew up the rap game, making him a huge success, achieving diamond certification. He also won best rap albums award at Grammys for these two. Apart from being the best at what he does, he has also starred in the movie “8 Mile” which later on won an Academy Award for the best original song “Lose Yourself”. Lately, Eminem had released two albums, The Revival and Kamikaze in 2017 of which the latter one was the best-selling hip hop album of 2018.
Most of us are aware of his music and what he accomplished over the years. Less known is the pain and struggle he suffered and how he overcame the obstacles. Eminem was born to an alcoholic mother and his father left when he was 18 months old. He changed various schools as his mother couldn’t afford education and often flunked.
